Learning about Inspire® therapy
An Inspire therapy-trained doctor will determine if you meet the four criteria below:
●Diagnosed with moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnoea
●Struggle with or can’t get consistent benefit from CPAP
●Not significantly obese
●18 years of age or older
Your doctor can advise you on the costs and reimbursement process during your consultation.
Major insurance providers have approved this treatment or therapy on an individual basis. Alternatively, if you are not covered by private insurance, other sources of funding are available for a limited period at selected hospitals. Speak with your doctor to see if you qualify.
Post procedure, hospitals may differ in post-operative care. Some suggest a one-night stay while others may allow you to go home without requiring overnight stays. These variations stem from institutional protocols and the medical team's assessment, prioritising your well-being and recovery. Recovery time after treatment varies depending on your condition. Most patients take over-the-counter pain medication and resume non-strenuous activities within a few days. Avoid strenuous exercise for the period of time directed by your doctor.
If you have another implanted device, you may still be a candidate for Inspire therapy.
Your regular activities should not be limited once you are fully healed. You should ask your doctor about any activities that are particularly strenuous, such as lifting heavy objects, or those that entail a large range of motion in your upper body and/or arms.
Depending on your condition, follow up consultations are usually conducted once or twice a year
A significant decrease in snoring has been found as a secondary effect of Inspire therapy. 90% of bed partners report no or soft snoring by their partner.
